Private services will be held at a later date by the family for James “Jim” Whitcomb, 75, of Chickasha.
James “Jim” Olin Whitcomb was born on February 27, 1945 in Woodward, Oklahoma to James Riley Whitcomb and Dorothy Marie (Secrist) Whitcomb. He died Sunday, December 27, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Jim and his family moved to Hobart when he was around 10 years old and he graduated from Hobart in 1964. He then joined the National Guard for 22 years.
On May 28, 1966, Jim married Regina R. Lee and they were married for 54 years.
He was a certified gemologist and worked as a jeweler for Treasures Inc. in Oklahoma City for many years. Jim volunteered his time and was active in several community groups. He was a member of The Gideons and a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha.
Jim never met a stranger always curious and interested in getting to know you. He was always ready to tell you all about how he met his soulmate which was love at first sight. He wanted to proudly tell you about his two sons and hear about your family. He readily gave marriage advice to young people how he and Gina had stayed married so long. He always explained that you took the word divorce out of your vocabulary replacing it with God, and it was until death do you part not until something better came along. He was affectionately known as “Pops” by his son’s friends as they always enjoyed talking with him about his younger days racing cars and horses. He was a most loyal friend and stayed in contact over the years making all class reunions.
He was preceded in death by both parents; his son Jason Edward Whitcomb; daughter-in-law Shanna Whitcomb; and brother Larry Wayne Whitcomb.
Survivors are his wife Regina and son James Lee Whitcomb of the home; two sisters Riletta Stockton of Hobart and Shellie Bates of Summerton, South Carolina; and other extended family and friends.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
