Funeral services for James Edward Werthen, 76, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kim Hayes officiating.
James Edward Werthen was born May 19, 1942 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, the son of Mettie Ray Werthen and Evie Lee (Lyons) Werthen. He entered his heavenly home Saturday, August 25, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
James attended Chickasha Schools, graduating with the class of 1960. He then joined the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, he worked at Pet Milk for 28 years until they closed in 1995. He then worked at Grady Memorial Hospital in material management for several years before retiring. He later went to work for Washita Valley Transit retiring for the final time in 2011.
On November 18, 1966, James married his wife of nearly 52 years, Shirley Werthen, in San Antonio, Texas.
He enjoyed working in the yard and also going to Liberty Drug to drink coffee with the guys. James was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by both parents; sisters, Shirley McWhorter and Lue Ella Williams; and brother, Billy Ray Werthen.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; sister, Patsy Hughes; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
