Funeral services for Jackie Lyndal Hames, 83, of Tuttle, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Snow Hill Baptist Church in Tuttle with Lynn Bullock officiating and Emery Dye assisting.
Jackie Lyndal Hames was a larger than life man, who has left this world on October 28, 2018, for a larger than life place. Jackie was born on January 14, 1935 to Leamon and Lillian Hames. He lived most his life in the Tuttle/Bridge Creek area. He graduated Bridge Creek High School with a class of a whopping six people.
Jackie was a longtime member of Snow Hill Baptist Church, where in 1953, he met Dorothy Knapp. On November 10, 1954 the two were married and 4 boys were the result of that union, Dick, Randy, Ronnie and David. This union almost didn’t take place because on Dorothy and Jackie’s first meeting he kept pulling her hair and she locked herself in the car to get away from him! But she gave in to his charms and the two had nearly 64 years of a wonderful life together. They travelled the world and saw and did many amazing things.
Jackie lived his life to the fullest. He joined the National Guard, worked as an Oklahoma City fireman, was a hunting guide in Alaska, and was a licensed pilot. In 1961, Jackie ventured out on his own by opening Hames Electric. With the help of Dorothy, they grew that business to the largest non-union electric company in the Oklahoma City area, with around 150 employees. During this time, Jackie also decided that he had time to take on farming as well. He would work all day at the electric shop then come home and bale hay at night.
In 1989, he decided it was time to pursue other things. So, he thought building houses would fit the bill. There are many housing additions in the Tuttle/Bridge Creek area started by Jackie. He served as president of the Homebuilders Association. While doing all of this, Dorothy and Jackie travelled extensively. They were members of the Rollin’ Okies, a motorhome travel club.
Throughout his life, Jackie was an avid hunter. If you’ve ever been in their house you can testify to that. Colorado, Alaska and Canada were some of his favorite hunting grounds. He went elk hunting in Colorado every year until just a few short years ago. Golf was also a passion of his. He went so far with that as to design and build his own golf clubs. Until the loss of his favorite golf partner, Al, a few years ago, Jackie played weekly.
When you sat down to a meal with Jackie, you can bet that there were four things on that table, wherever you were. Green onions, green olives, tomatoes and salt. On Thursdays, he and Dorothy would venture to Ken’s to split a steak! You would find them at Sherrie’s Diner on Sunday mornings, having breakfast with whatever friends and family showed up.
Jackie was always involved with many things at the same time. He and Dorothy served as class parents for all their boys. He made everyone around him feel like family.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Dick and David.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, son, Randy and wife Donna, and son Ronnie, seven grandkids, seven great-grandkids, and twelve great-great-grandkids. He touched so many people in his life that he has left a legacy that each of us should strive to reach.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery located in Tuttle, Oklahoma under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home out of Chickasha.
