Funeral services for Ira Ella “Susie” McWhorter, 84, of Chickasha will be held Monday, July 13, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Keneda officiating.
Ira Ella McWhorter, known as Susie, was born on October 11, 1930 in Binger, Oklahoma, the daughter of Roy B. Pollock and Martha Theora (Lindsey) Pollock. She passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
As a child, Susie moved to Anadarko and attended Anadarko Public Schools and later moved to Chickasha and attended Chickasha Public Schools.
She married Oscar Leroy Harris and to this union three of her children, Teresa, Steven, and Rhonda, were born. She later married Bobby Shafer and from this union her son, Don, was born. Her son, David, was born from her relationship with companion, Tony Torralba.
Susie raised her children and took care of her home, while also working at various employments. Over the years, she had been employed at Chickasha Furniture and Mattress Company, the Wonder Bakery in Oklahoma City, Otasco, and at Delta Faucet.
On August 20, 1982, she married Edward Clay “Buddy” McWhorter in Lawton, Oklahoma. They enjoyed many devoted years together and loved spending time dancing with one another and traveling.
Susie liked sewing, arts and crafts, gardening, and playing Bingo. She loved dancing and shared that enjoyment with her loved ones.
As a young lady, she was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Anadarko and later supported Epworth United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Chickasha Elks Lodge # 2125.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buddy McWhorther; sisters, Myrtle Claire Abshier and Esta Mae Rollins; and brother, Bill Pollock.
She leaves behind her sister, Mary Lou Tigner of Oklahoma City; daughter, Teresa Linn and husband, Tom, of Blanchard; son, Steven Harris of Chickasha; daughter, Rhonda Moon and husband, Michael, of Kerrville, Texas; son, Don Shafer of Oklahoma City; son, David Asetoyer of Chickasha; step-daughters, Donna Ohl and husband, Bill, of Chickasha and Diane Pace and husband, Jim, of Chickasha; grandchildren, Jennifer Sloan, Natalie Lim Taylor and husband, Brant, Andria Lim, Steven Doan, Harrison Moon and wife, Angel, Sean Ferguson, Kelly Mears and husband, TJ, Darin Ohl and wife, Mindy, Marcy Ohl, and Ashley Heddy and husband, Justin; nine great-grandchildren, Cristian Lim, Mikalin Doan, Isabel Russell, Sean Michael Ferguson, Jr., Nathan and Austin Mears, and Avery, Marshall, and Collin Ohl; as well as other extended family and friends.
Services and interment in Fairlawn Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
