Funeral services for Howard T. ‘Buck’ Austin, 86, of Chickasha, will be Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kim Hayes officiating.

Howard T. ‘Buck’ Austin was born in Dunlap, Tennessee on May 4, 1928 to Joseph Owen Austin and Ova Gertrude (Williams) Austin. He died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Lawton Veterans Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Buck grew up in Dunlap, Tennessee and joined the United States Army at the age of eighteen.

Buck came to Chickasha in the mid 1950’s. He worked for Melton Farms and later became a mechanic for Melton Motors, retiring after 35 years. He later worked for Charles Allen Ford/Lincoln in the early 1990’s.

He married Mary Crow on February 5, 1960 in Chickasha. She preceded him in death in December of 1994.

Buck enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. He was a card player and loved spending time with his family and friends. He also loved dancing and was very active in the Borden Park Community Center, where he served as President.

He and Ruby Boggess enjoyed a special companionship and had been life partners for the past nineteen years.

Buck is preceded in death by both parents; wife, Mary; a daughter, Connie Saunier; a brother, Willard ‘Bill’ Austin; a sister, Hallie Stewart; and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Saunier.

Survivors include his special companion, Ruby Boggess of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila Brown and Hank Rodgers; granddaughter, Johna Brown; son, Chris Austin; son, Doug Saunier; daughter and son-in-law, Venita and Cleo Stewart; daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Marty Thompson, Sherryl and Randy Henry, LaFonda Mata Green and Mack Holt; son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Melanie Boggess; daughter, Glenda Boggess; two sisters, Sue Hensley and Loretta Jackson; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends at Ferguson Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
