Private memorial services will be held for Hilda ‘Joan’ Riggs, 74, of Blanchard.
Hilda ‘Joan’ Riggs was born on December 27, 1939 in Oilton, Oklahoma to John M. Casey and Allie Edna (Raines) Casey. She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Joan grew up in Tyrone, Oklahoma and graduated from Tyrone schools. She married James ‘Allen’ Riggs, who would be her husband and partner in life for over half a century, on May 10, 1958 in Tyrone, Oklahoma.
Allen and Joan moved to Wichita, Kansas, for a few years before moving to the Oklahoma City area. They bought their house in Dibble in the early 70s and remained settled there. Joan was employed with Maremont, working several different positions, retiring after around 20 years.
She loved to paint and really enjoyed attending her group painting class in Edmond. She also liked to photo scrapbook and loved spending time with her family and friends. Joan was energetic and loved getting the most out of life. She enjoyed her and Allen’s lake house at Fort Cobb Lake, where they would get together with her brother, Melvin and his wife, Mary and play cards and dominos well into the night.
Joan was preceded in death by both her parents and her husband, James Allen Riggs on March 8, 2012.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl Riggs and her fiancé, Gil Gilbreath of Dibble; son, Greg Riggs and his wife Brenda of Sand Springs; brother, Melvin Casey and his wife Mary of Cleo Springs; four grandchildren, Kayla Hedrick and her husband Brandon, Trapper Fish, David Newell and his wife Heather, and Saundra Taylor and her husband Billy; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Newell, Andrew Newell, Layla Belle Taylor, and Harper JoAn Hedrick; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
