Funeral services for Hershel “Keith” Hammons, 73, of Pocasset, will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Pocasset with David Treadaway officiating.
Hershel “Keith” Hammons was born on May 11, 1941 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Hershel Homer Hammons and Ima Love (Wilmon) Hammons. He passed away at his home in Pocasset, Oklahoma on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.
Keith grew up in Pocasset, graduating from Pocasset High School in 1959. On October 2, 1962 he married Shirley Ann Hughes in Anadarko. Keith always said that he won the lottery the day he married Shirley, and was paid in three installments with the birth of their three red-headed daughters, Kim, Kay and Keisha.
Keith lived his lifelong dream as a truck driver. A career that started with hauling hay and grain as a young adult, and led to owning and operating HKH Enterprises, while also owning Hammons Service Station in Pocasset for over 20 years. He ended his trucking career in January 2014, retiring from Pratt Industries.
He was a true character of the Pocasset community and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents; an infant brother, Ronald and brother, Gary Hammons; and one sister-in-law, Jane Hammons.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hammons, of the home and his special little dog, Itsy; three daughters and their husbands, Kim and Mike Chester of Minco, Kay and Carrie Farmer of Denver, Colorado, and Keisha and Jason Hill of Morris; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Meredith Hammons of Tulsa; a brother, Jim Hammons of Pocasset; sister-in-law, Beverly Gregory of Pocasset; six grandchildren, Ryan Chester, Kinsey Morrison and her husband, Mason, Carrie Farmer II, Kyndall Chester, Travis Hill, and Jayden Hill; as well as many extended family and friends.
An opportunity to share written memories of Keith will be available at the service with a memory box.
Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery of Pocasset under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
