Funeral services for Herbert Schmidt, 78, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 in the Plainview Mennonite Church.
Herbert was born August 20, 1939 in Verden, Oklahoma, the son of Alfred Schmidt and Amanda (Nightingale) Schmidt. He died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Herbert lived in the rural Verden, Oklahoma area his whole life and attended Sandlin School.
He was joined in marriage to Dorothy L. Jantz on November 13, 1960 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, sharing 57 years together.
All of his life he farmed and raised cattle, doing most of his own mechanic work.
He was a lifelong member of Plainview Mennonite Church.
Herbert was preceded in death by both parents; an infant brother, Harry Schmidt; sister, Julieta Schmidt; brother, Harold Schmidt; and granddaughter, Kimberly Schmidt.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Schmidt, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, DeVern and Shilly Schmidt of Chickasha; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Thomas Smith of Chickasha; son and daughter-in-law, Dwain and Felecia Schmidt of Verden; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Lisa Schmidt of Verden; 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lavera and Don Smith and Geneva and Willis Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Winona Schmidt; sister-in-law, Yvonne Schmidt; and other extended family and friends.
Interment will be in Plainview Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
