Heaven has welcomed Helen Louise Tatum Davis where she has joined her parents, James A. Tatum & Myrtle Helen Willis Tatum; brothers, Jack Tatum and Pete Walter Tatum; sister-in-law, Corkie (Vernie) Tatum; beloved grandson, Ryan Hall; and a host of family and friends.
Helen was born on November 15, 1939, in Verden, Oklahoma. She entered into Eternal Life on October 31, 2013, following a courageous and fearless fight with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. She will be interred at Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on Thursday, November 7, 2013.
When Helen was a young girl the Tatum family moved from Verden to Anadarko, Oklahoma, where they attended First Baptist Church. In 1952, Helen’s family moved from Anadarko to Chickasha, Oklahoma, where they began attending Bible Baptist Church. Helen also met George Ronald Davis in 1952; they wed in 1955. They moved to Sacramento, California, where George was stationed in the Air Force. Their first child, son George Richard Davis, was born during this time.
The Air Force transferred George and family to Tampa, Florida, where they attended church, made life-long friends and served the Lord faithfully in both areas. After George was honorably discharged from the service the young family moved to Texas where they attended college and their daughter, Cynthia (Cyndi) Sue Davis, was born. In 1963, upon graduation from college, the Davises moved home to Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Helen was a devoted wife and mother who was always involved in her children’s school and church activities. She worked outside the home for many years but her favorite ‘job’ was always at home. Helen was also a very faithful and dedicated member of Bible Baptist Church where she taught the four & five year old boys for many cherished years and volunteered in other ministries. As she and George matured with age they worked with and taught the Senior Adult Class at church and took great joy in helping its members.
She was well-known as a crafter who enjoyed needlepoint, sewing and crocheting and made hundreds of items for others’ pleasure. However, Helen was best known for her creative culinary skills and exemplary organizational skills. She was an avid reader who enjoyed numerous Christian authors, study and devotional books, and her favorite, her Bible.
Surviving Helen is her husband, George Ronald Davis of the home; son & daughter-in-law, Rick & Donna Davis of Norman, OK; daughter & son-in-law, Cyndi & Barry Hall of Cement, OK; three grandchildren, Ashley and Justin Heddy of Lawton, OK, Zach & Heather Hall of Odessa, TX, and George Andrew Davis of Bellingham, WA; sister & brother-in-law, Sue & Randy Burnley of Sebring, FL; three great-grandsons, Kaden, Kolby and Kamden Hall of Odessa, TX; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
A celebration of Helen’s life and time of visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on November 7, 2013, in the Bible Baptist Church of Chickasha, Oklahoma, with Rev. Kim Hayes officiating.
