Graveside services for Helen Louise Loveless, 97, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, September 18, 2020 at Fairlawn Cemetery with Michael Butler, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Chickasha, officiating.
Helen Louise Loveless was born August 22, 1923 in Dallas, TX to Hugh Edward (Jack) Wilkie and Mattie Sue Wilkie. She died on September 11, 2020 in Edmond, OK.
Helen grew up in Dallas, TX and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1940. She attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women’s University). She worked in several law offices as well as at Travelers Insurance Company. Helen attended Gaston Avenue Baptist Church where she met Sam Loveless. He was a tenor soloist at the church and Helen was his accompanist. They were married on October 2, 1945.
After Sam finished Baylor Dental School in 1949, they moved to Frederick, OK, and then eventually to Chickasha, where he practiced dentistry until retirement. Sam and Helen lived west of Chickasha for 39 years, until his death in 2006. Helen remained on the farm for another 9 years, before moving to Legend at Jefferson’s Garden Assisted Living in Edmond, OK in 2015, where she lived until her death.
Music was always a huge part of Helen’s life. She started playing the piano for Gaston Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas at the age of 10. When she and Sam moved to Frederick, she became the organist at the First Baptist Church there and also played the organ at First Baptist Church in Chickasha for a period of time. She was an accomplished musician and could play anything by ear. It was an amazing talent that she shared with all who knew her.
Helen became a member of the First Baptist Church in Chickasha in 1955. She was a member of the JOY Sunday School class, past member of MacDowell Music Club and a member of the DV Chapter of PEO.
Helen had a true servant’s heart and spent her life caring for her family. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and devotion.
