Funeral services for Harry LeRoy Fenimore, 90, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Keneda officiating and Pastor Blake Durham assisting at the interment.
Harry LeRoy Fenimore was born to Orris Dale and Maude Irene Fenimore on October 14, 1926 in Woodward, Oklahoma. He passed away November 22, 2016 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Harry grew up in Woodward, the second of three children. He was very close with his older brother, Robert (Bob), and his younger sister, Shirleinne, throughout their lives. He graduated from Woodward Public Schools and played both basketball and football. Harry went on to attend Oklahoma A & M, now OSU, and played basketball under the legendary coach Henry Iba.
In 1945, he met the true love of his life, Phyllis Grace Burchett, during his second year of college. They were married on February 8, 1947 and started their family in 1950, when their son, Jerry was born, followed by Janice and then Jeanice. They enjoyed 57 years together until Phyllis’ passing in 2004.
After college, Harry worked in the family owned hardware store, Fenimore Hardware and Gifts, in Woodward until 1954. During his years there, he had worked with his father on a brochure print machine and they developed and improved it and eventually patented the Fenimore “Stitch-a-Fold” machine. He and his father started Fenimore Manufacturing and throughout the years the business grew and became a family business, re-located to Chickasha in 1976.
In 1984, Harry and Phyllis moved to Stillwater to be near his brother, Bob. They enjoyed traveling and took trips within the United States and around the world. Harry always had an interest in planes; he flew and later in life built model airplanes.
Harry completely retired in 2006, leaving the family business with his daughters, Janice and Jeanice and their husbands, Steve and Mike.
He was preceded in death by both parents; wife, Phyllis; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Vera (Jackson) Burchett; son, Jerry Allen Fenimore; brother, RobertFenimore; sister, Shrileinne Fenimore Jennings; and brother-in-law, Steve Burchett.
Harry is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Steve Smith of Chickasha; Jeanice and Mike McDonald of Chickasha; four grandchildren; Leslee Smith Holliday and husband, Matt, of St. Louis, Missouri, Matt Smith and wife, Kimberly, of Oklahoma City, Zac Smith and wife, Naomi, of Oklahoma City, and Megan McDonald and fiancé, Kyle Tabor, of Oklahoma City; two step-grandchildren, Michael McDonald and wife, Lisa, of Marlow and Heather McDonald Farrell and husband, Scott, of Aurora, Colorado; eight great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ethan, Gracyn and Reed Holliday, Aven, Sutton and Levi Smith, and Shepard Smith; three step-great-grandchildren, Avery and Ayden Farrell and Cole McDonald; sisters-in-law, Veta Fenimore, Beth Burchett Jackson and husband, Bill, and Sue Burchett Oliver and husband, Chuck; brothers-in-law, Wendell Burchett and wife, Gabby, and Stuart Burchett and wife, Carolyn; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Sunday, November 27 th from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and before the services on Monday, the casket will be closed at the services.
Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. Elmwood Cemetery, located in Woodward, Oklahoma under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
