Gleneva “Bernice” Dabney Ransom

Funeral services for Gleneva “Bernice” Dabney Ransom, 89, of Chickasha, previously of Oklahoma City, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Eric Dabney and Reverend Gerald Lunsford officiating.

Gleneva “Bernice” Dabney Ransom was born on September 6, 1927 in Amber, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Jennings Shay and Ollie Lena Shay. She passed away peacefully on April 3, 2017 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Bernice grew up in Amber and graduated from Amber High School.

She married C. B. Dabney in May of 1943 and they had two sons, Wayne and Don. When the boys were raised, Bernice began working with C. B. at Moore Stauffer Grain Company in Verden as the bookkeeper for a number of years.

After C.B. died in 1972, Bernice married Ralph Ransom and then moved to his wheat farm in Hillsdale, Oklahoma where she worked with the Wheathearts.

Bernice was an excellent cook. She was a member of PEO and was in the Order of the Eastern Star. Bernice went on several out of the country mission trips with the Volunteer In Missions (VIM) program through the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.

Bernice was preceded in death by both parents; husband, C.B. Dabney; husband, Ralph Ransom; and five brothers, Kenneth, Desmond, Glen, Vernon, and Ronald Shay.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Jana Dabney of Chickasha and Don and Stephanie Dabney of Gold Hill, Oregon; grandson, Eric Dabney and wife, Shelley, of Edmond; granddaughter, Julie Devoti, of St. Louis, Missouri; granddaughter, Michelle Douglas and husband, Chris, of Jacksonville, Illinois; grandson, Brian Dabney and wife, Hillary, of Versailles, Kentucky; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild due in May; other extended family and friends.

Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery will be under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Verden Public Schools, Dabney Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 99, Verden, OK 73092.
