Funeral services for George Michael Thomas, DVM, 74, of Ninnekah, will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, located at 804 Utah Avenue, Chickasha, Oklahoma with Bob Craddock and Alva Charlson officiating.
George Michael Thomas, known as Mike, was born on March 20, 1941 in Hugo, Oklahoma, the son of George Washington Thomas and Valti Sarah (Stringfield) Thomas. He died Sunday, October 18, 2015 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from heart failure following a sudden illness.
Mike came to Ninnekah as a young boy, where he grew up and graduated from Ninnekah High School in 1958. He attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1962 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Husbandry.
On July 7, 1962, Mike and Barbara Smith were united in marriage in Chickasha, Oklahoma and they were married for over 53 years. They returned to OSU and Mike obtained his degree in Pre-Veterinary Sciences in 1965, and in 1968 he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Degree. He joined a veterinary clinic in Temple and worked there with Dr. Lester Dupler for thirteen years. In the fall of 1981 he returned to Ninnekah where he opened a mobile veterinary practice and farmed with his father.
As a young man, Mike loved to play sports, especially basketball and softball, and he enjoyed coaching his children and other youth during his younger years. He was a very family oriented man, and loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home; daughter, Michele Flanagan of Lawton; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Valerie Thomas of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren, 2 nd Lieutenant Sean Flanagan of Pensacola, Florida, Connor Flanagan of Miami, Oklahoma, Victoria, Michael, and Braedon Thomas of Gilbert, Arizona; uncle and aunt, Max and Barbara Thomas of Ninnekah; and several extended family and friends.
Family visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22 nd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home, Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Services and interment in Ninnekah Cemetery will be under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
