Funeral services will be held for George “Elvis” Stanphill, 77, of Chickasha, at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

George Elvis Stanphill was born on June 15, 1934, in Chickasha, Oklahoma to George Arthur and Lula (McCurley) Stanphill.  He died on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at home in Chickasha.

Elvis attended grade school in Chickasha, later moving with his family to central California.

Elvis enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 in San Diego, California.  He was a Seabee and served his country proudly in Korea and Vietnam.  He retired from military service in 1973 in Mississippi.  He has since been employed at several locations as a plumber and machinist, including Badgett’s in Chickasha.

He was preceded in death by:  both parents and two brothers, Carl Stanphill and Howard Stanphill.

Survivors include:  one son, Art Stanphill of Chickasha; five daughters, Sherry Stanphill of Lawton, Brenda Whitaker of Lawton, Karen Allm of Lawton, Marie Griffin of Port Richie, FL and Shannon Urban of Texas; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Catherine Walton, Margaret Kemper, Shirley Mayo and Joy Wilson.

Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
