Funeral services for George Edward Heusel, 83, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Parkview Christian Church with Justin Avery and Bill Holly officiating.
George Edward Heusel was born November 6, 1933 in Wichita Falls, Texas, the son of Albert Frederick Heusel and Helen Adair (Staggers) Heusel. He passed away May 5, 2017 in Duncan, Oklahoma.
The son of a Methodist minister and a deeply devout minister’s wife, George grew up understanding the benefits of faith in God and being multi-talented. Being occasionally uprooted from parsonage to parsonage and having five older brothers and two older sisters ensured that George had an active and adventurous youth, with plenty of friends and escapades to enjoy.
In 1952, he graduated from Alfalfa High School, where he was voted “Most Likely to be on the Harlem Globetrotters Team.” He was awarded a scholarship to attend Oklahoma A&M (OSU), where he played basketball, until he was drafted into the United States Army.
After entering military service, George married his sweetheart, Norma Gail McCall, in Thomas, Oklahoma and they had two children and were together for over 56 years.
George loved his family. He loved his brothers and sisters in Christ and his Parkview Christian Church family. He was proud of serving his country for more than 20 years with many awards garnered during his service record, a distinguished career. As well as serving on multiple posts in the United States, he also served overseas in Germany, Vietnam and Korea.
In recent years, he enjoyed being a member of and participating in the Chickasha Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Affairs and the American Legion.
George was skilled in many life and work application but his favorite activities were helping and giving to others. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and friend.
George was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Norma; son, Bruce Heusel; brothers Keith, Raymond, Cleo, and Clinton Heusel; sisters, Rosetta Nightengale and Elizabeth Stuteville.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa A. Foster and Johnny “Kent” Foster of Chickasha; brother, Harold Heusel of Cannon, Colorado; grandson, Garrett Foster and wife, Ashley; grandson, Andrew Foster and wife, Jentri; four great-grandchildren, Maddox, Emerson, Creedence, and Kennedy Foster; other extended family and friends.
Interment will follow the services at 2:00 p.m. in Fort Sill National Cemetery located in Elgin, Oklahoma under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
