Funeral services for George Clark Baker, 71, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kent Hibbard officiating.

George Clark Baker was born on October 22, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, the son of Fulton C. Baker and Margie (Gorden) Baker. He passed from this life to his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 25, 2019 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

George graduated from R.L. Turner High School in Carrolton, Texas. He married Cecelia Dumas in Dallas, Texas. Of that union a son, Clark James Baker was born. Later, on September 18, 1993, he married Carolyn Marie Holder in Chickasha. Carolyn passed in January 2015.

After high school, he later went to Cook County Junior College, in Gainesville, Texas, where he received an associate degree in Real Estate 1and 2 and Appraisal 1 and 2. He joined the U.S. Army in Dallas, Texas, in 1979. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he completed Basic and AIT. He was then assigned to Pershing missiles and stationed in Heilbronn, Augsburg, and Schwabisch Gmuend, Germany. George later returned to Fort Sill and was sent to Dugway, Utah with the Pershing Missile Systems and launched the Pershing missile from Dugway to the Atlantic Ocean.

When he returned to Bamburg, Germany, he was assigned to Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) A Btry BN 14th Field Artillery, then returned again to 3/9 FA, Fort Sill in support of the Gulf War with 1/158 FA, National Guard. After the war, he was sent back to Bamburg, Germany, where he was stationed until he returned to Fort Sill in 1994, where he retired from the U.S. Army and was transitioned to the 1/158 FA-Btry Oklahoma National Guard in MLRS. He later was stationed with HQ Btry 1/158 FA in Lawton, Oklahoma.

In 2005, while with the National Guard he was assigned to help with Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 2006, he helped with border patrol in Playas, New Mexico with HQ Btry 1/158 FA.

George held Secret and Top-Secret clearance while in the Army. He retired from the Oklahoma National Guard in 2006 with a combined 27½ years in the Army and the Army National Guard, receiving many accolades and awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

George worked for the city of Chickasha and the Grady County Law Enforcement Center until 2014. He was life member of the VFW, American Legion, and the DAV. He loved his dog Gabby, working in the yard, bowling, and riding his motor cycle. He also enjoyed eating breakfast on Mondays with the Patriot Guard Riders.

He wants to be remembered with the quote: “I did it my way.”

George was preceded in death by both parents, and his wife, Carolyn.

Survivors include his son and wife, Clark James and Michele Baker of Lewisville, Texas; brother Fulton C. Baker, Jr. and wife, Diane of Leonard, Texas; stepson, Kyle Coward of The Colony, Texas; stepson and wife, Rodney and Gina Williams of Temple, Texas; stepdaughter, Sonya Fitch of Chickasha; granddaughter, Elizabeth “Betz” Baker; grandsons; Landry, Camden, and Dayton Williams and Levi Fitch; and numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.

Interment will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
