Funeral services for Genevieve Newton, 87, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 in Epworth United Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Keneda officiating.
Genevieve C. Newton, known by most as ‘Aunt Genny’ was born on September 20, 1927 in Yale, Oklahoma to Thomas Anton Newton and Angie B. (Holcomb) Newton. She passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 in Chickasha.
Genny was a faithful member of Epworth United Methodist Church and she loved her church and church family. She always remembered the birthdays of many family and friends and sent them birthday cards. She was fond of good food with the fellowship of those she cared about. Genny loved Christmas time. She loved people and was quite the “social butterfly.”
Three years ago, Genny moved to Nowata Gardens and loved living there. She especially loved having coffee with her friends there in the mornings and playing games with them in the evenings.
Two things Genny was passionate about were baking zucchini bread and embroidering tea towels to give to family and friends. Some of her other favorite things to do were to dance (especially the chicken dance), raise flowers and plants, fishing, and reading. She loved fresh tomatoes. She liked to play cards, especially pitch.
Genny was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marian Coulter; brother, Don N. Newton; a nephew, Tom Coulter; and a great-niece, Angie L. Newton.
She was loved and will be greatly missed by her nephews and nieces; Steve and Susan Coulter of Bridge City, Texas, Carol and Johnny Dunnihoo of Spearman, Texas, Sara Coulter of Chickasha, Scott and Karen Coulter of Elk City, Skip and Peggy Newton of Glencoe, Phil Newton of Yale, Susan and Gary Lochary of Chickasha, and Sharon and Rod Tate of Sand Springs; 22 great-nephews and nieces; 39 great great-nephews and nieces; and one great great great-niece; as well as extended family, church family and friends.
