Memorial services for Ermine Sue (Bryant) Horn, 94, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at College Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Haynes officiating.
Ermine Sue (Bryant) Horn was born October 21, 1924 in Greer County Oklahoma to George Dewey and Jennie Ruth (Parker) Bryant. She passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Sue grew up in Mangum, Oklahoma and graduated from high school there in 1942; she attended Oklahoma A&M College for 4 semesters as a music major, was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority there and a member of the Symphonic Choir.
In 1944 she married Clayton Laroy Horn, and they lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, while her husband was in the Army as a Flight Instructor in the Department of Air Training. They moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1946, where her husband was the owner of Clayton’s Grocery and served in the Army Reserve for 6 years. Two sons were born, Clayton Scott Horn and Kent Bryant Horn. The family became very active in Michigan Avenue Baptist Church, where she started and directed the first Children’s Choir in that church. In 1956, they helped start College Heights Baptist Church in Chickasha. Clayton was the first Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. They both taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
She was a member of McDowell Music Club for 37 years and later became active in Christian Women’s Club, serving on the Board of Directors for 16 years. She taught private piano pupils for 25 years also organ and voice lessons and presented recitals. Clayton and Sue served on many church committees and saw many people come to know the Lord Jesus through their teaching and witness. Sue has sung in church choirs since she was 17 years old and also played piano and organ in church, filling in when needed. She always said, “I want to sing to the Lord as long as I live!, and praise His name as my Savior and Lord!” Sue believed in prayer from a very early age and believed it was right to pray about everything, even small things, as well as big things, and praise God all the time.
