A private memorial service for Elsie Lavern Lessig, 86, of Chickasha, will be held by the family at a later date.
Elsie Lavern (Mashaney) Lessig was born September 9, 1937 in Gainesville, Texas to John Edward Mashaney and Allie Loraine (Godfrey) Mashaney. She passed from this life on Sunday, August 11, 2024 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Elsie grew up in the Binger/Hinton area and attended Hinton school.
She married Jim Ashley and to this union a daughter Lori was born.
Elsie worked for Delta Faucet for 22 years and took great pride in her job, where she never met a stranger and made many friends. That was where she met Raymond Clouse and he became one of her closest friends.
She enjoyed sewing and working in her yard. Elsie loved to read, especially Stephen King and Dean Koontz books. She loved her dog, Bella. She was always there for her grandchildren and enjoyed listening to them tell her about what was going on in their lives. She had a quote posted by her door that she often would say “Unless you are God or George Strait, wipe your feet.”
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, ten brothers and sisters Orbin, Cecil, Vancel, Archie, Floyd, Dee, Johnnie, Judy, Dorothy, and Virginia, and her granddaughter Paige Gomer.
Loved ones left to remember her are her daughter and son-in-law Lori and Carl Lee of Marlow; grandchildren and their spouses Allie and Robert Cowan of Chickasha and Scott and Kim Lee of Kenai, Alaska; beloved great-granddaughter Rose-Marie; nephew Larry Woodrome; other nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
