A graveside funeral service for Elbert James Bottoms, 91, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023 in Laverty Cemetery.
Elbert James Bottoms was born May 20, 1932 in the small community of Egypt, Oklahoma to Ozie Stell Bottoms and Avo Rilla (Herrin) Bottoms. He passed from this life on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Elbert grew up mainly in the Alex area and moved to Chickasha in the 1940’s. He voluntarily entered the United States National Guard and was in the 45 th Infantry, serving as a switchboard operator in the Korean Conflict.
After his military service, Elbert worked at various jobs then was trained with an electrical company as a residential electrician. Over the years he worked for several electrical companies, opening his own company, B & B Electric for a time. He then worked at Maremont in maintenance, retiring after 19 years.
On April 25, 1980, he married Lavern Jewel (Butler) Adair and they shared 43 years together.
He was kind and generous, caring for others over himself. He never complained. He enjoyed reading and word puns and watching the older TV shows.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, daughters Cheryl (Bottoms) Alexander and Brenda (Bottoms) Prather, four brothers and six sisters.
Loved ones left to remember him are his wife Lavern Bottoms of the home; son and daughter-in-law Alvin and Janet Bottoms of Chickasha; sister Patricia Richardson; two brothers Gary Bottoms and Paul Bottoms; seven grandchildren Judy Faulkinberry, Debbie Anderson, Stacey Mercardo, Latosha Halstead, Riley Prather, Jennifer Brooks, and Dewayne Bottoms; numerous great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Sunday, July 30 th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home.
Services and interment are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
