A memorial service for Edward Lee Blevins, 87, of Chickasha, will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 2, 2016 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Edward Lee Blevins was born December 9, 1928, in Enid, Oklahoma to William S. and Helen (Sadlo) Blevins. He passed away at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City on November 26, 2016.
Ed attended public schools in Enid, OK, graduating in 1946. He then attended Phillips University where he obtained his degree in pre-veterinary medicine. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) School of Veterinary Medicine in 1952. Upon graduation, he practiced veterinary medicine for a short time in Ottumwa, Iowa. He then returned to Oklahoma State University where he served as an assistant professor on the clinical staff for six years from 1952 – 1958. Ed is credited with performing Oklahoma State’s first diaphragmatic hernia. In 1958, he and his wife Helen “Buddy”, moved to Chickasha, OK where he was a partner in the Chickasha Veterinary Hospital and eventually became its sole practitioner. He retired in 2009 after 51 years at the Chickasha Veterinary Hospital.
Ed was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, and the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry for many years. Ed also served on the Chickasha School Board for 17 years from 1975 to 1992, 4 years as President.
Ed married Helen B. Howard in Holy Trinity Church in Lucan, Ontario, Canada on July 21, 1956. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Frank and Bill. He is survived by his wife Buddy and their beloved children and grandchildren, Scott and his wife Julie of Bloomington, IL and their children Michael and Sarah; Barbara and her husband Robert Melchor of Wichita, KS and their children Matthew and Antonio; John and his wife Stephanie of Westport, CT and their children Peter, Olivia and Caroline; and lifelong friends and colleagues Harold Irby and Ed Schenk, both of Chickasha, OK.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be provided to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Chickasha, OK or to a charity of your choice.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
