Harriette Duane Colcord Loy, 84, passed away April 21, 2014 in Chickasha. Born November 10, 1929 in Tulsa to Major Harvey Duane cord and Lenore Fry Colcord, Duane grew up in Oklahoma City, where she and her brother Bill spent summer days playing in the mansion owned by great uncle Charles Colcord. Duane and Jim Loy met outside of Classen High in 1946, while Jim awaited discharge from the U.S. Navy. They were married that year. They had three children, Jim Jr., Bob, and Dana. Survivors include husband, Jim, of Chickasha, Bob and his wife Debbie, and Dana and her husband José Juan Colín; granddaughter Sarah Loy, her husband Brian Bickford, and great-granddaughter Maia Bickford-Loy; granddaughter Taylor Ford, her husband Airman Andrew Ford, and great-grandson Keegan Ford; granddaughter Mariana Colín; nieces Betty Loy, Kathy Loy, Linda Pullen, and Lee Trey; and nephew Clay Colcord. Son Jim Jr. died in 2002. Duane graduated from USAO, taught in the Chickasha Public Schools, and received a Master’s degree from OU. With the help of Jim and several good friends, she organized and coached a girls’ gymnastics team. She coached the girls’ tennis team at Chickasha High School, took up snow skiing, and became an accomplished golfer. She served on the boards of the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Service Center, and the YMCA, was a member of PEO of Chickasha, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She owned the Duane Colcord Gallery in Chickasha and in Tulsa, retiring in 1993 to spend more time with her family.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 Thursday, April 24, at Ferguson Funeral Home, 804 Utah, in Chickasha. In place of flowers, contributions may be sent to Chickasha Public School Foundation, P.O. Box 2443, Chickasha, OK 73023.
