Funeral services for Douglas Arthur Prince, 78, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Rodgers officiating.

Douglas Arthur Prince was born July 26, 1943 in Bradley, Oklahoma to Millard Elbert Prince and Bessie Vernon (Gilbert) Prince. He passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Douglas grew up in Pauls Valley and attended Whitebead School through the 8 th grade then graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1962. During high school, he was a superstar forward basketball player, leading the Panthers and the state of Oklahoma in scoring his junior and senior years.

On October 28, 1961, he married Gloria Ann Richardson in Norman, Oklahoma. They shared over 60 years together. They were members of River Jordan Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He drove a truck for many years and also served as the Grady County District 2 Commissioner for eight years, retiring in 2004.

Douglas loved sports and his favorite teams were the Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers, Oklahoma OU Sooners and his very favorite was the New York Yankees. He coached little league boys and girls teams in baseball, softball and football for 50 plus years, including coaching all of his children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Millard Prince, brothers Frank, Port, Sherman, Pat and Vernon; sisters Johnnie, Barbara, Audrey and Norma.

Survivors include his wife Gloria of the home; daughter Debbie Thompson and husband Michael of Edmond; son Mark Prince and wife Mechell of Blanchard; daughter Angie Prince of Chickasha; son Ron Prince of Sandstone, Minnesota; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren with one on the way; other extended family and friends. Interment will be in Paoli Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
