A funeral service for Allen Douglas Meeks, 72, of Minco, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024 in the Friendship Methodist Church, Northwest of Pocasset on County Street 2790, with Pastor David Treadaway officiating.
Allen Douglas Meeks, who went by Doug, was born on September 1, 1951. He was one of ten children born to Troy Lee Meeks, Sr. and Mary “Evelyn” (Sanders) Meeks. He passed from this life on Sunday, June 16, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Doug grew up in Chickasha and graduated Chickasha High School in 1969.
He married Reta Ann Climber and to this union his two sons Brian and Kevin were born.
As a young man, he worked driving a wrecker and at the water plant, but for the majority of his life he worked 24 years at Delta Faucet and 14 years hauling gravel for Grady County. He was the Fire Chief for Grady County’s Harold Fire Station for 20 years.
On May 16, 1980, he married Janice Taylor and they shared 44 years together and had two children, Darren and Amy.
Doug liked to read, enjoyed traveling and spent many hours fishing. He taught all of the grandkids how to fish and go to garage sales, where they collected many “treasures” over the years. He loved to smile and wanted everyone to be happy. He also had his onery moments. He would do anything for anyone. Doug was a good friend, husband, dad, and Papa.
He was preceded in death by both parents, his son Kevin, and his brothers Troy Meeks, Jr., Kenneth Meeks, and Joe Meeks.
Loved ones left to remember him are his wife Janice of the home; son Brian Meeks of Ninnekah; son and daughter-in-law Darren and Heather Meeks of Pocasset; daughter and son-in-law Amy and Nick Muchmore of Yukon; daughter-in-law Shannon Meeks of Chickasha; grandkids Brandon Meeks, Tyler Meeks, Shaelyn Meeks, Lane Meeks, Taylor Meeks, Ty Meeks, Brinlee Muchmore, and Rylee Muchmore; great-grandson Trevor Meeks; siblings and their spouses David and Connie Meeks, Henry and Ina Meeks, Kelly Meeks, Lynda Scott, Darlene Harjo, and Irene Wall; many nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
Viewing for Doug will be Wednesday, June 19 th at Ferguson Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
