Dorothy Rose Williams was born on July 9, 1926 in Wilson, North Carolina to Otto and Gertrude (Stainback) Coyle. She passed from this life on Thursday, January 5, 2023 in Chickasha, Oklahoma surrounded by her loved ones.

She was raised in Washington DC and graduated from Sibley Hospital in 1947 as a registered nurse.

She met Lloyd Williams from Washita, Oklahoma in a church basement at a dance in December, 1945.  They had a year-long pen pal courtship while he was out to sea serving in the US Navy and married when he returned to port on December 12, 1946.

They lived and worked in Washington DC until they returned to Washita to run the general store in 1953.  She worked as a surgery nurse in many surrounding hospitals including Grady Memorial and Anadarko Municipal Hospital.  She was the Caddo County Health Nurse for many years and retired from the Department of Human Services in Anadarko in 1985 after 38 years in nursing.

She was a talented seamstress sewing her own and children’s clothing. After she retired, she was a member of the quilt guild and enjoyed china painting, ceramics, and crocheting.  She bowled for many years in leagues in Anadarko and Chickasha.  Her favorite past time was yelling Bingo.

She has lived at Glenhaven Assisted Living for the past 13 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, Lloyd Williams and son in law Roa King.

She is survived by her children, Alan Williams and Peggy Burkett of Rogers Arkansas, Donna King of Arapaho, and Carol and Tony Hackney of Chickasha; eight grandchildren Tara and Robert Lovelace of Burns Flat, Christi Turney of Weatherford, Brandon and Amber Turney of Clinton, Andrea and Kenny Caster of Mustang, Brad and Kendahl Williams of Lawton, Alaina and Levi Hayes of Weleetka, Jared and Brooke Turney of Chickasha, Joe Hackney and Alison Schindler of Chickasha; 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; sister Betty Price of Florida; and other extended family and friends.

The family will have a private celebration of life at a future date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
