A graveside funeral service for Donald Dewayne Nowlin, 71, of Chickasha will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, located in Elgin, Oklahoma.
Donald Dewayne Nowlin was born March 20, 1952 in Moses Lake, Washington and he was the son of Junior Merle Nowlin and Ida Rose (Weige) Nowlin. He passed from this life on Friday, January 12, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Donnie grew up in Porterville, California. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1973 near the end of Vietnam and for over 24 years accumulatively, he served in the Navy, active duty with the Army stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, the Army National Guard in Enid and Altus and the Army Reserves, retiring in 2012. In his military career he worked as a meteorologist. He served overseas in Desert Storm, Bosnia, Korea and Kuwait.
On April 19, 1980 he married Wanda Devenport in Greenville, Texas and they shared 43 years together.
After retiring from the military, he worked at Gabriel, tried his hand at his own business picking up and delivering dry cleaning, and at Walmart. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working in the garden, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
Loved ones left to remember him are his wife, Wanda of the home; daughters Kelly Grant of Lone Oak, Texas, and Holly Dimatteo of Chickasha; son Patrick Nowlin of Altus; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; several siblings; and other extended family and friends.
Viewing will be Wednesday, January 24 th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The service will be under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
