Funeral services for Don Null, 71, of Amber will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 in the Sharon Baptist Church with Pastor Jon Bawden officiating.
Leroy “Don” Null was born March 11, 1948 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, raised by his parents, Ruth LaRue (Teel) Townley and Ike Townley. He passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at his home in Amber, Oklahoma.
After graduating from Amber High School in 1967, he was drafted into the United States Army and was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, part of the 1st Calvary 7th Division. He was known as “Big Don” and was the point man for his platoon, responsible for the largest enemy ammunition find recorded at that time. He was very proud of his service to his country and received many accommodations, including a Combat Infantry Badge, two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars.
He married Judy Turner on July 25th and they were married for 49 years.
He had worked for many years as a shift manager for Ralston Purina feed company. Then he transitioned jobs to spend more time with his family and became manager for Poag Grain Inc. out of Amber, where he retired. Throughout all of these years he also owned and operated his ranch/farm.
Don loved working on his farm from dawn til dusk. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids taking them fishing and camping and he was especially proud when they helped him on the farm. He was an OSU fan and also liked parading around town in his Purple Willys. His dogs held a special place in his heart. His joy was his family; his kids and grandkids could do no wrong. He was a big-hearted gentle giant and was a hero to his daughters and many others.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Ike Townley, his brother Ricky Townley and his “Little Granny” Janie Teel.
Survivors include his wife Judy of the home; daughters and sons-in-laws Kimberly and Michael Foli of Amber, Sharla and Nathan Koob of Tulsa, Juleena Masters of Tulsa, and Krista Barnes of Tulsa; grandchildren Kealee and Timothy Romero, Emory Barnes, Deacon Masters, and Olivia Koob; great-grandchildren Tierney, Brenden, Evelyn, and Heston; siblings and their spouses Patsy and Luther “Fuzz” Reeves, Cathy Townley, Bobby and Linda Townley, Steve and Mickie Townley, and Curtis and Penny Townley; nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
