Graveside services for Derrell Ray Settle, 76, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Spring Creek Cemetery near Gracemont, Oklahoma.
Derrell Ray Settle was born August 11, 1943 in the back of a grocery store in Spring Creek, Oklahoma, the son of Haskell Ray “Hack” Settle and Inez (Shook) Settle. He passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
He attended the Gracemont school during his elementary years, then moved to Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School.
Derrell married Deanna Morris and to this union his daughters, Tandi and Misti were born.
He was in grocery retail all of his life, working for several different stores and then in 1979 he purchased Ratliff Grocery from Homer and Verma Ratliff, continuing its legacy in Chickasha as Ma & Pa Settle Grocery. Derrell was an active member of the community, he served on the city council, was involved in the Country Club Golf Tournament and was a charter member of the Chickasha Elks Lodge #2125.
Derrell enjoyed square dancing, singing, painting and auctioneering. He loved to tell jokes and boss people around and he always had a story to share. He enjoyed going to church and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by both parents; sister Kay Settle; sister Brenda Pearcy; brother Randy Settle; and brother-in-law Chuck Pearcy.
Survivors include his daughters and their spouses Tandi and Danny Massey of Oklahoma City and Misti Settle and Chrissy Womack of Chickasha; grandchildren Kilyn Massey and Maclayn and Aaron Carroll; great-granddaughter Harper Carroll; other extended family and many friends.
There will be no viewing at the funeral home or the service.
Interment will be under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
