Funeral services for Denial A. Blankenship, 79, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Seth Johnson officiating.
Denial A. Blankenship was born November 21, 1938 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma to Bud Blankenship and Ova Ada (Johnson) Blankenship. He passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Denial was raised in Ada and graduated from Latta High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served in Germany for three years.
In January 1962, he married Arletta Kirk and they were married for 61 years. In 1963, they had their son, Denial Ray.
While working as a welder full-time, he attended night classes and after many years and hard work he received his Bachelor Degree from OSU. In 1974, they moved to Chickasha, where Denial took a position at the Vo-Tech as the founding welding instructor in the new Vo-Tech programs. He started Grade A Welding and worked as a contractor with Mobile Oil for 25 years. Currently, many of his former students continue to work in the oilfield industry.
He and Arletta volunteered with Friends with 4 Paws, a local dog adoption program, and devoted much time and energy to this group. Denial was a member of Bible Baptist Church and he enjoyed the fellowship with his church friends.
His greatest source of pride was his family and he dearly loved his wife. He loved the time spent with his granddaughter, Jessica and his son, Denial.
Denial was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Arletta Blankenship; brother, Buddy Blankenship; and sister, Sue Pettigrew.
Survivors include his son, Denial Blankenship and granddaughter, Jessica Blankenship both of Oklahoma City; brother, Benny Blankenship of Arkoma; sisters, Janette Vaughn of McAlester and Sonda Jansen of Gowen; many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
