Debra Ann Harris, 64, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away in her home on September 12 th , 2022.
Debra Ann (Howell) Harris was born on May 24 th , 1958 to Maurice Fred Howell and Evelyn Faye (Beare) Howell in Duncan, Oklahoma. After Debra graduated from Chickasha High School in 1976, she went on to study at the University of Oklahoma, eventually earning her nursing license.
In 1982, Debra met Robert Harris in Chickasha, Oklahoma and they married on January 29 th , 1983. Debra and Robert went on to have 2 children, Robyn Harris and Stephanie (Harris) Young.
Debra really enjoyed and excelled at her career as a nurse, but her real pride and joy were her two daughters and her 40-year marriage to her loving husband, Robert. She was a proud soccer and softball mom, never missing a single game or a practice. She was just as dedicated to helping her daughters exceed in academics and in life by consistently challenging her daughters outside of the classroom. The bond with her daughters stayed strong throughout her whole life, they kept in touch almost daily.
Debra had a way with words; she kept everyone entertained with her quick wit and dry humor. She loved reading, writing, and traveling. One of her favorite trips was when she traveled through Europe in 2017. Some of her other interests included science, world news, history, ancestry, watching documentaries and most of all OU football.
Debra always stood up for what she believed in and was always there for her friends and family that needed her, they could tell her anything. You would always come out feeling better after confiding in her. She would have made an exceptional therapist in another life.
Debra spent her retirement being a devoted dog mom. Recently, she assisted in advocating for the building of the new dog park in Chickasha. Her dog children brought her a lot of joy and fulfillment.
Debra was the glue and the light of her family. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Debra was predeceased by her parents, Maurice Howell and Evelyn Howell.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Harris, their two daughters, Robyn Harris and Stephanie (Harris) Young, along with their husbands Richard Thornburg and Billy Young. Debra is also survived by three siblings; Donna Kling, Fred Howell, and Candy Cardin, along with their spouses Amy Howell and Daryl Cardin, and their children; Kimberly Crilly, Molly Brantley, Maddison Howell, Jennifer Bray, Jerry Don Bray, Judd Bray and Mallory Cardin; and other extended family and friends.
Cremation arrangement are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
