Funeral services for Cora I. Whitener, 95, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 26, 2016, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.
Cora I. Whitener was born in Grady County on June 9, 1920, to James Carrol “Cal” and Annie Lee (Barefield) Drewry. She passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016, in Chickasha.
Cora attended schools in Ninnekah and the surrounding area. She married James Albert Whitener in Chickasha on June 25, 1940.
She was a homemaker most of her life and helped James Albert on the farm. Cora enjoyed ceramics, sewing children’s books and playing games such as Skip-Bo and Rummikub. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved family reunions.
She was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church, Silver Haired Legislature and several home extension clubs.
Cora was preceded in death by both parents; husband, James Albert, in 2003; son, Steve Whitener in 1978; grandson, Travis Whitener; son-in-law, Jerry Rhodes; sisters, Ella Mae Ellis, Estella Massey, Anna Lee Grayson, Pearl Dugger and Betty Ann Clark; brothers, Walter Drewry, Carrol Drewry, Bill Drewry, Bob Drewry, and J.W. Drewry.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Rhodes of Chickasha; grandchildren, Jeffrey Rhodes of Chickasha, and Jerad Rhodes & wife Tiffany of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Damon Miller of Chickasha and Ethan Rhodes of Oklahoma City; sisters, Elizabeth Bowen of Chickasha and Deloris Hatfield of Sanger, TX; many nieces, nephews and extended family members and two special caregivers, Teresa Powers and Shila Love.
Services and interment in Fairlawn Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
