Funeral services for Claudetta Shaw, 76, of Chickasha will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, in Chickasha, with Reverend Eugene McCarrell officiating.

Claudetta Shaw was born November 1, 1937 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Clarence Walker and Sarah Jordan. She was raised in Birmingham, Alabama by the late Walter and Janie Mae Jordan. She died Friday, April 4, 2014 in Oklahoma City, OK.

Claudetta received her education at Robinson Elementary and Fairfield Industrial High School in Fairfield, Alabama. She attended college at Oklahoma City University and Anchorage Community College for Business Administration and Early Childhood Education. She was a business woman for many years in Lawton, Oklahoma and Anchorage, Alaska.

Claudetta married her late husband, Joe Robert Shaw, on July 1, 1957 in Fairfield, Alabama in Chapel AME Church. She later moved to Oklahoma where she lived in Lawton and spent the rest of her life in Chickasha, Oklahoma with her significant other, Edgar B. Hayden. She had five children, Darryl Shaw, Angela Shaw, Vevlyn Hayes, Danata Shaw-Brown, and Andrea Sledge.

Claudetta was a member of Barnett Chapel in Lawton, Oklahoma where she served as a member of many organizations including Faith Partners, Announcement Clerk, and Usher Board. She was also a member of First Baptist Church where she served as the Announcement Clerk, Kitchen Coordinator, Homecoming Chairperson, Pastor Anniversary Chairperson and Hospitality Chairperson. As the Announcement Clerk, she always had a quote of the day that would bring smiles throughout the church. She enjoyed cooking, reading and dancing.

Claudetta Shaw was well known statewide as an expert in child care. She taught Child Care Career Courses at the Vo-Tech in Lawton for five years. She worked as the district director for Kinder Care Learning Center, and she managed as many as 17 schools in the State of Oklahoma for ten years. She was also a member of several other organizations which included Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, FEMA, Concerned Community Friends, Bullock Memorial, Opportunity Workshop, Crime Stoppers, Policy Council, and the Sherilykes Social Club. She also ran her own catering business known as House of Haysha.

Claudetta was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Joe Robert Shaw; one son, Darryl Shaw; three sisters, Geraldine Tatum, Mildred Williams, and Lorraine Jordan; two half-brothers, Clarence Walker Jr. and Calvin Walker.

She is survived by her significant other, Edgar B Hayden of Chickasha; children, Angela Shaw of Lawton, Vevlyn Hayes of Lawton, Danata Shaw-Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Andrea Sledge of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Gregory Smith, Marla Morgan, Kanisha Fuller, Shawnda Shaw, Dwan Smith, Marlo Shaw, Marlana Shaw-Brown, Marlita Shaw-Brown, Marlisha Shaw-Brown, Johanna Richie, and Joseph Shaw; two sisters, Earline Brown of Cleveland, Ohio, and Marilynn Jennifer Buswell of Edmond; four brothers, Walter Jordan, Dwight Jordan, Michael Jordan, and Kendrick Jordan all of Birmingham, Alabama; as well as 15 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Viewing is available Tuesday from Noon to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home, 804 Utah in Chickasha.

Interment will be at the Ft. Sill On-Post Cemetery in Lawton under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
