Charles Eugene “Gene” Campbell of Chickasha, Oklahoma, was born on January 7, 1944, in Marlow, Oklahoma, and passed from this life on December 4, 2023, in Chickasha at the age of 79 years.
Gene grew up in the Foster community of eastern Stephens County, attending school there until moving to Pauls Valley, McFarland, California, Maysville, and finally to Lexington where he graduated high school in the class of 1962. Gene broke out in the oilfield while still in high school and continued in that industry for over fifty years. His career brought him and his family to live in New Orleans, Louisiana, then to Scotland, and later to Singapore before settling in Chickasha. Gene loved watching football, raising fighting chickens, horses and dogs, collecting guns and knives, cooking and grilling. He will be fondly remembered by many for his generosity towards others. Gene never missed an opportunity to talk about how proud he was of his girls and his grandsons. His family was the joy of his life.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Martha (Condit) Cook and Paul Cook; sister, Georgia Honeycutt; brother, Hank Campbell; and a cousin who was like a brother, Jerry Condit.
He is survived by his wife, Tawana Campbell of the home; daughters: Julie Shrader and husband Robert of Chickasha, Aimee Turner of Elmore City, and Gina Goodman and husband Michael of Ada; grandsons: Braden Turner, Campbell Shrader, Chanden Turner, and Jackson Goodman; numerous cousins and extended family members as well a host of friends.
