Funeral services for Celestia Smith Roberts, 90, formerly of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kim Hayes officiating.
Celestia Smith Roberts went home to be with her Heavenly Father and her family in heaven, April 26th, 2022.
Celestia was born in Lonestar, South Carolina September 3, 1931. She was the third of seven children born to Vergie and Dudley Smith. She grew up on the family farm picking cotton and helping around the gardens. While in high school at Pine Grove she was noted to be the most popular and was President of her Senior class of five. Her motto was “Love em and Leave em.”
She attended nursing school until she met and married David J. Allen, who was stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Three children were born to that union, John Gregory, Gary David and Gayla Celestia. After 12 years of marriage, she and her kids moved from Oklahoma back to South Carolina, where she lived until 1977 when she wanted to be closer to her first grandson William.
She met and married Charlie Roberts in March 1979 and together they raised and raced Thoroughbred Horses and were well known at the tracks in Sallisaw. Both Charlie and Celestia were very active in the Chickasha Elks Lodge and each held Leadership positions. Celestia was known for her pies, brownies and cakes that she shared with her Elks Lodge Family. Her chocolate pie was well sought out by her kids and their spouses, which sometimes resulted in hiding what was left.
Celestia worked as an Administrative Secretary throughout her career. She retired from Maramont and worked at the Jane Brooks School for the Deaf, until it closed. She had many friends and family that she enjoyed for many years.
She is survived by her three children, John Gregory Allen (Dianna) of Oklahoma City, Gary David Allen (Ladonna) of Chickasha and Gayla Celestia Stewart (Richard) of Owasso; grandson William (Tracy), Aubrey (Wyatt), Cameron (Jessica) and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Cleo Hendy of Chico, California and brothers Goree Smith (Bari) of St. Matthews, South Carolina and Hammy Smith (Jody) of Laurel, Maryland: many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
She will be missed, but we know she is free from pain and at peace with her new home in heaven.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Roberts in 1996, parents Dudley and Vergie Smith, sister Annie Laurie Watson, brothers Dee Smith and John Edward Smith and his wife Bonnie Smith and grandson Caleb Stewart.
Interment will be in Cement Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
