Carolyn May (Mollett) Hunter was born February 12 th , 1936, to Robert and Charlotte Mollett in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She passed from this Earth and into her Lord’s arms on January 26 th , 2024, at the age of 87 after a long and courageous battle with the cruel disease of Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her husband, Robert, her daughter Susan Ford and her husband Mike, her son Todd Hunter, and his wife Janette, her daughter, Lisa McPherson and her husband Mark, and grandchildren Caroline, Alexander, William, Harrison, Margo, Zach, Faith, and Ivy. She is also survived by her sisters Marilyn Ramsey and her husband Dan, and Bobbie Jeanne DeHart and her husband Cary.
As a child, one of her father’s first coaching and teaching jobs was in Gracemont, Oklahoma where they lived from 1939-1942. Carolyn spoke of that little town as the most idyllic place on earth and the time she spent there were some of her best memories. The family moved to Chickasha to be near extended family when her father joined the Navy in 1942. Carolyn remembered fondly traveling with her mother to Great Lakes Naval Station and Gulf Port, Mississippi to join her father during World War II.
Carolyn was actively involved as a student at Chickasha High School. She was a member of the Chickettes Pep Club, the editor of the school yearbook, and was chosen to be an Oklahoma Girls State Delegate. After graduating from CHS she attended Oklahoma State University majoring in Home Economics and pledging Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. While home in Chickasha the summer of 1956, she and a girlfriend were asked to go on a double-blind date to the Wan Dora tavern. It is there that her love story began, where her shuffleboard partner, would go on to become her partner for life, Robert “Bob” Hunter.
Bob and Carolyn were married February 1 st , 1958, at the First Christian Church in Chickasha. Bob’s first job as a petroleum engineer took them to Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Chicago, Illinois; Terre Haute, Indiana; and Hobbs, New Mexico during his training period. They were eventually assigned to a position in Great Bend, Kansas where Carolyn taught high school home economics until their first daughter, Susan, was born. In 1962, Carolyn’s father, Robert Mollett invited Bob Hunter to join his business, Chickasha Finance, which was later renamed to Mollett-Hunter Companies.
The couple lived the rest of their lives in Chickasha and were very active in the community. Carolyn was a member and President of Junior Social Workers, and even participated in the very first Spaghetti Day. She was also very active in her church, Treasurer of PEO, and a member of Home Culture Club. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years and was a church youth group sponsor. She was President of the Alpha Chi Omega house corporation board at OSU and oversaw a major renovation of the sorority house. She remained a proud Fightin’ Chick her entire life and found great joy organizing all the reunions for her beloved Class of 1954.
Bob and Carolyn loved traveling to Europe and visited many countries including England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Russia, and their favorite Vienna, Austria. A highlight of their travels was the night they attended a masked ball in the Hofburg Palace in Vienna and waltzed together into the night.
Carolyn was a devoted and loving wife to Bob, a supportive and caring mother to Susan, Todd, and Lisa, and an adoring Grammy to all her grandchildren. Her sweet and gentle spirit has left an imprint on all who loved her, and she will be dearly missed.
