A funeral service for Carolyn LaVern Smith, 82, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
Carolyn LaVern Smith, who went by Carol, was born May 17, 1942 in Santa Monica, California to Roy Owen Baxter and Romain LaVern (Rogers) Baxter. She passed from this life on Friday, April 18, 2025 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Carol grew up in the Chickasha area and went to school at Pioneer. She married Michael Tice and to this union her three children, Tina, Sharon, and Gregory were born.
Carol then married John Edwards, who was in the Army, and they moved around the States and lived in Germany twice.
She worked at various jobs during her life. She worked at the PX on most of the bases where they were stationed. She made and sold Native American jewelry when they lived in Arizona. She had also worked at Inland Motors and several convenience stores.
Carol retired to care for her mother and then later helped care for her brother-in-law, Jim. She moved to Denver for eight years, living with her oldest daughter Tina and just recently moved back to Oklahoma, living for just a week with her daughter Sharon in Oklahoma City. She was a strong woman and in the past few years the family could see her strength as she battled sickness and never complained.
She liked to crochet, craft, make jewelry and design costumes. She enjoyed playing games and loved God and her family above all else. She was onery and stubborn. She has now gone home to be with loved ones and will be deeply missed.
Carol was preceded in death by her father Roy Baxter; mother Romain Ryan; siblings Wayne Furra, Roy Baxter, Jr., Richard Furra, Bill Dennis Furra, Tommy Dean Furra, Lynn Furra; son Gregory Allen Tice; son-in-law Terry Keith; great grandson Dominic Soda; and brother-in-law Jim Lawler.
Loved ones left to remember Carol are her sister Jean Lawler of Marlow, daughters Tina Walker of Denver, Colorado, and Sharon Colbert and husband Bruce of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Sherie Stidham and husband Travis of Chickasha, Mandy Davis of Denver, Colorado, Donald Soda and wife Shannon of Eden, New York, and Chance Soda and wife Naomi of Depew, New York; great-grandchildren Adriayna, Xavier, Nina, Haley, Miah, Tristan, Brendan, Dylan, Collin, Leigha, and Alana; great-great-grandchildren Athena and Ares; many first cousins and other extended family and friends.
Viewing for Carol will be held at Ferguson Funeral Home on Monday, April 21st from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
After the funeral service, Carol’s choice was cremation and then the burial of her cremains at Laverty Cemetery will be at a later date by the family.
