Bobby Ray Russell was born May 7, 1930 in Mountain View, Oklahoma. He was the son of Chester Arthur Russell and Jessie Alberta (Lassiter) Henly. Bobby died Thursday, October 17, 2024 at his home in Chickasha, Oklahoma surrounded by his loved ones.

Bobby grew up in Mountain View and graduated from high school in 1949. He went to Oklahoma City and joined the US Navy. They put him on a train with 50 cents and he arrived in San Diego with $70 he made from playing poker.

His military career took him all over the world and he made many friends. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He supervised the guns and armory on the destroyer ships. After the Navy, he joined the Fleet Reserves and had a combined service of over 30 years.

On June, 26, 1952, he married Davice Joyce Buck and they had over 55 years together, raising their children from coast to coast, including California, Illinois and Virginia. He was always very caring of Davice and would drive her everywhere, she never drove.

Bobby’s grandmother lived in Chickasha, so when he retired from the Navy, they moved here to Chickasha. He worked for Pet Milk for over 20 years.

He liked to fish and loved to golf, spending a lot of time looking for golf balls. He enjoyed his walks every morning through Rose Hill Cemetery and would get into fights with the squirrels over the fallen pecans, which he would shell and give away. He was very compassionate person and was always there if anyone needed him. Bobby loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He felt blessed and had a good life with Davice. He had a special bond with his great-grandson Aaron Acey, they were traveling buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Loyel Russell, Kenneth Russell, and Odell Russell; sisters Patsy Pierson and Phyllis Fuller; beloved wife Davice Joyce Russell in 2007; grandson Eric Dwight Acey; granddaughter Joyce Marie Acey; and daughter Cheryl Lynn Whitmire.

Loved ones left to remember him are his daughter Jerry Ann (Russell) Acey of Amarillo, Texas; son Bobby Ray Russell II of Chickasha; daughter Sharon Rae Russell of Chickasha; son Mitchell Chester Russell and wife Kristi of Amarillo, Texas; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; and many other extended family and friends.
