Memorial services for Billy Bob Caruthers, 82, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kim Hayes officiating.
Billy Bob Caruthers was born at home in Verden, OK on September 20, 1935 to Clifford E. Caruthers and Lorena Bell (Fitzgerald) Caruthers. Bill attended Meridian school and graduated in 1953. He died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at his home in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
In 1954, Bill had a 1949 Studebaker and he and 12 other guys started the Road Runners car club where he had the title of “Sargent of Arms”.
He married Sylvia Sandra Smith on February 26, 1956.
In 1957, they moved to Texas and he worked in the aircraft industry in the Ft. Worth area. He then moved to Bridgeport Texas and began his career in the trucking industry.
In 1971, the family moved back to Verden where he farmed and ranched. In 1974, he started Caruthers’ fertilizer store. Shortly afterward he and his son Mike worked together in the oil field service business.
He enjoyed going to equipment auctions, meeting new people, and seeing new places.
He especially enjoyed having a special seat with his coffee crew trying to solve the world’s problems at the table of knowledge.
He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Clifford Caruthers, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia, of the home; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Kent Halfast of Cypress, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Marcia and Ronnie Stidham of Chickasha; son and daughter- in-law Mike and Trisha Caruthers of Norman; nephew, Jerry Caruthers of Verden; grandchildren Chris & Ashley Halfast of Irving, Texas, Kyle Halfast of Cypress, Texas, Robbie and Stacey Stidham of Stephenville, Texas, Brian and Jill Stidham of Chickasha; great grandchildren Austin Stidham of Stephenville, Texas, Mason and Cason Stidham of Chickasha, and Harrison and Sloane Halfast of Irving, Texas; and other extended family and friends.
Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
