Betty Lou Hackney

d. December 24, 2017

Funeral services for Betty Lou Hackney, 81, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charles Bishop officiating.

Betty Lou (Cape) Hackney was born August 5, 1936 in Cement, Oklahoma, the daughter of Floyd and Dorothy Cape and the oldest of their six children. During her early years, the family lived mostly in the Grady County area. On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2017, Jesus sent his angels to carry her away into His waiting arms.

She married Tommy Lee Hackney on April 28, 1962 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. They made their home in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where Betty worked at Pet Milk and Sentry Manufacturing.

Betty loved children and in 1992, she began Kiddie Korner Home Daycare. Her daycare was her pride and joy and she loved each and every child that came through her door. She retired in 2007, when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which she battled until the very end.

She bowled for many years at the Grady County Bowl and Southland Bowling Alley. Betty loved to dance and liked Country and Western, Bluegrass, and Christian music. She enjoyed shopping and had a shoe collection to prove it.

Betty was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Children’s Church for many years. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she always had several Christmas Trees and her house was decorated to emphasize her passion. But most of all, she loved her family. She attended all the games and events that her son and grandchildren were involved in. She was the matriarch and the anchor that kept the family all together, her house was always open to anyone. She took care of many and had a great love for her son, grandson, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents; infant son, Tommy Lee Hackney, Jr.; and sister, Gay Harmon.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Hackney of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Carol Hackney of Chickasha; sister, Jean Sells of Carnegie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Patsy Cape of Elk City and Jerry and Cathy Cape of Carnegie; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Roger Merchant of Chickasha; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; many other extended family and friends.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
