A funeral service for Betty Jean Pruitt, 94, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Travis Markes officiating.
Betty Jean (Wingard) Pruitt was born September 29, 1928 in Rocky Chapel, Oklahoma to Lester Eugene Wingard and Myrtie Lee (Campbell) Wingard. She passed from this life on Thursday, August 17, 2023 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Betty was raised in the Fitzhugh, Roff and Ada areas of Oklahoma, graduating from Fitzhugh High School. She then attended East Central State College in Ada and later attended University of Science and Arts in Chickasha. She taught high school business and math in Fitzhugh, Roff, Tuttle and Ninnekah before retiring in 1992.
On May 30, 1952, she married J.C. Pruitt in Ada, Oklahoma and they shared almost 45 years together until his passing in 1997. They moved to Chickasha in 1963.
Betty was a loving and devoted mother, the rock of her family and she was very proud of her children. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and other craft projects.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband J.C. Pruitt, and brothers James Wingard and Clyde Wingard.
Loved ones left to remember her are her children Joe Bob Pruitt of Chickasha, Jim Pruitt and wife Leta of Chickasha, Janet Quate and husband Ivan of Oklahoma City, and Jayne Lancaster and husband Willie of Blanchard; six grandchildren Lori Grant, Christopher Quate, Allison Weaver, Tiffani Pruitt, Jay Pruitt, and Shelby Lancaster; four great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at a visitation Sunday August 20 th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in Rosedale Cemetery, located in Ada, Oklahoma under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
