Bettie Jo Higgins

d. October 9, 2022

Memorial services for Bettie Jo Higgins, 90, of Ninnekah, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dr. William Carlin officiating and the Reverend Susie Lindley assisting.

Bettie Jo (Coday) Higgins, known to many as Ms. Jo, was born on December 23, 1931 in Healdton, Oklahoma to Andrew Jackson Coday and Irene Modene (Killian) Coday. She passed from this life Sunday, October 9, 2022 at her home in Ninnekah, Oklahoma.

Jo graduated from Chickasha High School. In 1948, she married William Benny Higgins and to this union seven children were born. William was in the service so they moved around a bit before settling in Washington for several years.

She returned to Oklahoma in 1970 and continued to raise her family. For over 40 years, she worked at the front office for Chickasha Laundry and Cleaners. She was a long-time member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she was very involved, always present, and ran the children’s nursery for many years. Ms. Jo was also a charter member of the Eagle’s Lodge # 4070. And let’s not forget how much she loved going to the casino. She also loved to dance and enjoyed a motorcycle ride when given the opportunity.

Ms. Jo was preceded in death by both parents, her two sons Michael Higgins and Rayford “Buckshot” Higgins, grandson Michael Ryan Van Laningham, and twelve brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her children William “Bill” Benny Higgins, Jr and wife Marcia of Oregon, Donald Allen “Ike” Higgins of California, Rhonda Moore of Ninnekah, Euvela Higgins Parish of Chickasha, and Patricia Higgins of Chickasha; fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and many other extended family and friends.

The service, cremation arrangements and burial of cremains is under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
