Funeral services for Bertha Louise Jensen, 90, of Minco, formerly of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the Minco Church of Christ with Jimmy Ross officiating.
Bertha Louise (McKelvey) Jensen was born on March 17, 1930 in Minco, Oklahoma to Earnest McKelvey and Boyce Georgia (Watson) McKelvey. She passed away Monday, June 8, 2020 at her home in Minco, Oklahoma.
Bertha grew up in Minco and graduated from Minco High School in 1949.
On November 23, 1949, she married Verle Ray Jensen and they were married 55 years until his death in November 2004.
She helped Verle work their farm, raised their sons and took care of the home. They moved to Chickasha a couple of times and had also lived in Pocasset.
Bertha was a longtime member of Epworth United Methodist Church and an active member of the United Methodist Women’s group. She was on the Grady County Fairgrounds Board and helped get the new Fairgrounds Building built. She also started the Grady County Pageant, was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and an avid supporter of 4-H and FFA.
Bertha loved flowers and opened her own flower shop called Bert’s Bloomers for a time and her love for flowers continued for the rest of her lifetime. She dearly loved her grandchildren. She was stubborn and liked things a particular way. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by both parents, husband Verle Ray Jensen, grandson Lonnie Don Jensen and brother Troy McKelvey.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Eric and Sheri Jensen of Minco; son Randy Jensen of Pocasset; grandchildren Jamie and Jeff Mardis of Mangum, Krissi Jensen of Minco, Michael and Kelly Jensen of Minco, Jared and Sara Jensen of Minco, Jade and Glenn Wedman of Minco; sister Helen Lawson of Napa, California; great-grandchildren Landon, Colby, Mackenzie, Kirsten, Sylar, Colson, Wheeler, and Hattie; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, June 10th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home located in Chickasha.
Interment will be in Minco’s Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
