Funeral services for Barbara Ann (Mosier) Elliott, 79, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday on August 24, 2018 in the First Baptist Church of Chickasha with Pastor Michael Butler officiating and Pastor Kim Hayes assisting.
Barbara Ann Mosier was born on November 16, 1938 to Myrl Mosier and Ruth (Winkler) Mosier in Amber, Oklahoma. She passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma.
In 1945, Barbara’s family moved one mile north of Friend school, where she completed first grade, unknowing that her future husband, Jimmy Elliott was in a nearby classroom in third grade. Afterwards the family moved back to Amber. From the age of twelve, she was responsible for preparing the evening meal. In high school she was responsible for the family milking and saved enough money to make a down payment on a typewriter, where she met her future husband at Standley’s Office Machines.
She attended Friend, Amber and Ninnekah schools, graduating from Ninnekah High School on May 9, 1957. Barbara never missed a day of school in 12 years, though she should not have gone to school some days because she was sick, however she was bound and determined to get the perfect school attendance record upon graduation.
She married Jimmy Leroy Elliott on May 10, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Ninnekah. They initially lived in a duplex on 17th street, but bought a house at 811 S. 13th prior to Tim’s birth. In 1972, the family moved to their current home three miles east of Chickasha. On May 2, 1958 their first-born son, Timmy Lee Elliott was born. Gary Lynn Elliott was born on March 13, 1960 and then Sherri Denise Elliott was born on December 4, 1964.
Barbara was a stay at home mother, housewife, seamstress, quilt maker, cook, canner, cleaner, chauffer, cub scout leader, Sunday school teacher, dress maker, Jaycee Jane, Junior Social Worker, Home extension club member and worker, square dancer, and gardener. She sewed competitively and for her grandchildren and was a seamstress judge at the county and state level.
She was a counselor to her children, great listener and great game loser to her grandchildren and a friend to all that knew her. She was a Proverbs 31 wife. After Timmy and Gary were out of the house, she worked for a few years at Standley Systems while Sherri was finishing school, then she went back to home making.
Barbara was preceded in death by parents, Myrl and Ruth Mosier, brothers, Chester Wayne Mosier and Olen Dale Mosier, sister-in-law, Bobbie Mosier and an infant brother.
