Anita (Stapleton) Hood of Oklahoma City joined the Lord on September 24, 2022, at the age of 86.
Anita was born on October 1, 1935, to Morgan and Edna Stapleton in Terre Haute, Indiana, where she grew up and attended high school. She met her future husband, Larry Hood, formerly of Cement, Oklahoma, when he moved to Terre Haute for a job opportunity. They married in 1954, and several years later, they moved to Oklahoma where they resided for the rest of their lives. Their daughter, Laura was born in 1959.
From age 15, Anita worked in health care, culminating in 30 years at the Oklahoma Health Science Center where she became the Assistant Director of Purchasing before retiring. After retiring, Anita became involved in the Capital-Medical Center Improvement & Zoning Commission for which she served stints as a commissioner and as a member of the Citizen’s Advisory Board. In addition, Anita worked on a subcommittee, the Historic Preservation Committee, formed to ensure the area’s historic integrity would be preserved.
She and Larry loved animals and always had a dog and cat around to care for. This led to her collecting animal figures of all sizes to decorate both the inside and outside of the home they bought and remodeled near the Oklahoma state capitol. In addition, Anita painted, played the piano, and collected antique dolls.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband Larry in 2021, her parents, and her brother Morgan.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Stackhouse and husband Robert of Nashville Tennessee; two grandchildren, Whitney Hayes and husband William of Frisco, Texas; Makenzie Sumrall of Nashville, Tennessee; and her great-grandchild, Brooks Hayes of Frisco.
Services will be conducted by Ferguson Funeral Home of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and will occur on Monday, October 10 th , 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the cemetery in Cement, Oklahoma.
