Graveside funeral services will be held for Alvie Carter, 74, of Chickasha at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha with Kim Hayes officiating.

Alvie Homer Carter was born on September 5, 1937, in Cox City, Oklahoma to Chester Alvie Carter and Minnie Lee Johnson Carter.  He died on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at home in Chickasha.

Alvie grew up in Cox City but came to Chickasha as a young man and graduated from Chickasha High School.  While in high school he was active with the boxing team and became a Golden Glove boxing champ.  After high school he spent some time serving his country in the United States Air Force.

Alvie was a very good mechanic; it was his passion.  He was blessed by being able to work in the field he loved, as a mechanic, for most of his life.  He owned and operated Alvie’s Auto & Repair for over 40 years before retiring in 2002.  He was a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge.  He loved to socialize with friends and family and especially enjoyed spending time with his daughter and granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by both parents.

Survivors include:  daughter, Paige Dungan and granddaughter Ella Dungan of Chickasha; daughter, Nancy Speckman and grandson Coleman Speckman; two brothers, Mitch Carter and Ken Carter both of Chickasha; one sister, Frances Doshier of Chickasha; and many other family and friends.

Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
