Graveside services for Alonzo Clayton “AC” Hays will be held at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin Friday, December 18th at 1:00 pm with Bob Thompson officiating.
Alonzo Clayton “AC” Hays was born on December 23rd, 1937 in Anadarko to Alonzo and Cleo Hays. He went to be with the Lord on December 4th, 2020 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was 82 years old.
AC was raised in the Friend community near Chickasha and graduated from Friend School in 1937. After high school he attended Oklahoma State University for a while and then joined the Army. He was stationed in Germany. When he returned to the US he worked for Haliburton in New Mexico and met Virginia Wheeler. They married in March of 1961.
He learned to repair typewriters and worked for IBM for several years. He later worked for Office Products INC/CPT of OKC and learned to repair all sorts of office machines. He spent the last decades of his career traveling all over the state while working for Standley Systems.
AC and Virginia lived in Mustang for many years but in the 1990s returned to Chickasha where they were active members of Parkview Christian Church. AC had a servant’s heart and over the years volunteered for his church, the Red Cross, and Sooner Girl Scout Council. His family is grateful for the loving care he was given for the last 15 months of his life at the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Center.
AC is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Mike Evon of Elgin and grandson Hayden Evon; brother Gene Hays; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, and his parents.
Memorial donations can be made to Parkview Christian Church or the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Center.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
