Funeral services will be held for Alfred Jack Hurley, 87, of Chickasha, on Friday, August 1, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Wally Boyd and Ted Hurley officiating.

Alfred Jack Hurley was born October 11, 1926, in Lubbock County, Texas, the son of Orby Crystal Hurley and Ola Mae (Weddle) Hurley. He died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at his home in Chickasha.

Alfred grew up in Cement and the surrounding areas; he left home at sixteen and went to Portland, Oregon working in the shipyards for a few years. Returning home, he married Bertha Orum on June 2, 1945, in Cement, Oklahoma. For a few years after they were married, he and Bertha farmed, and then moved back and forth from Oklahoma to California.

They lived in Fresno, California, around 20 years and during this time Alfred went back to school at Roosevelt High School and received his High School Diploma in 1966.

While in California Alfred worked as a rug weaver along with other family members.  For the majority of his life Alfred worked as a mechanic then later worked for the City of Chickasha at the Water Department. He retired from General Motors in Oklahoma City in the quality control department. Throughout all of his years he farmed off and on.

He was a devout church member of the Church of the Nazarene, and was the all-around “handyman” for the church. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Road Runner RV Club.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha; three sons, David, Ronald, and Donald Hurley; three brothers, Orby John, Gene, and Wayne Hurley; four sisters, Cathrene Hurley, Faye Ralph, Marie Buffer, and Crystal Lantz.

Survivors include son, Lloyd Hurley, of the home; grandson, Michael Hurley of Chickasha; granddaughter, Cathleen Garcia and her husband, Daniel of Lawton; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Jr., Linda, and Leon Garcia; and many other extended family and friends.

Interment will be in the Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
